Back then, I, Reynel, was given an opportunity and a privilege to work in every theater or artistically-inclined person’s dream workplace, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). By then, I always go to the Museum inside the CCP during my break time. That’s when the idea of including Museo ng Kalinangang Pilipino (MKP) to our Museum-A-Month Project came across my mind and I immediately shared it with Rozie.
Two permanent exhibitions are a staple in the CCP museum is worth a visit. One is of an impressive collection of Asian musical instruments. The other is an essential showcase of Filipino traditions and aesthetics.
“Diwa: Buhay, Ritwal at Sining” (Spirit, Life, Ritual and Art), one of the permanent exhibits, presents a comprehensive view of the aspects of Philippine traditional culture and exhibits significant Filipino artistic traditions, as well as the development of Philippine art and aesthetics in the socio-cultural context.
Different artistic forms of the Filipino’s interaction are exhibited in five concepts:
1. Bayan (Nation)
2. Buhay at Kamatayan (Life and Death)
3. Kamag-anakan at Pamayanan (Kin and Community)
4. Lupa (Land)
5. Kaluwalhatian (Divinity)
Included in admission is the CCP Collection of Asian Musical Instruments showcases different traditional musical instruments from Indonesia, Japan, China, Korea and the Philippines. The Philippine musical instruments were donated by National Artist for Music, Dr. Lucrecia R. Kasilag. She has been collecting musical instruments for over 50 years. The musical instruments from the other Asian countries were from the donation of the countries represented.
This short museum tour won’t cost you a lot of time nor money. Visit the place before or after watching a play or attending an event in CCP.
